The interplay between naturalistic organic forms found in nature and architectural forms that portray symmetry and linearity has long piqued my interest. My final series of prints aimed to showcase a world of translation between these two worlds – one of nature and the other of architectural conjunctions and forms.
Inspired by Surrealism and the works of Salvador Dali, I was driven to experiment with different ways to create these interjections while maintaining a sense of phantasmagorical essence in my work. I worked with mirrors and plexiglass throughout the city of Providence, reflecting unexpected imagery in contrast to a background where the viewer would least expect it to be placed. This not only achieved the surrealist essence but also allowed me to make an unexpected discovery by combining the two forms.
As a graphic designer, I was naturally drawn to developing 35 mm film negatives that spoke to me with a dual advantage of being functional not only as photographs but as a poster series as well, while still having complex graphic qualities.
